Institute of Plant Virology
On May 1st 2014 the merger between the Institute of Plant Virology and the Institute for Plant Protection of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) led to the newly formed Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP), directed by Dr. Gian Paolo Accotto.
Please, visit the new website of the Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection, which is now online at the following address www.ipsp.cnr.it
The Institute of Plant Virology (IVV) represents the most important and the largest research group in the field of plant virology in Italy. The staff (47 people) is divided into a central Headquarter (Turin) and two Support Units (Grugliasco and Bari). The Institute belongs to the Agricultural and Food Department of the Italian National Research Council (CNR).
The mission of the Institute is to develop research programs about viruses and virus-like agents (such as viroids and phytoplasmas) that cause plant diseases.
The understanding of the molecular basis of viral infection and the study of the interactions among plant hosts, virus/virus-like agents and their vectors are instrumental in defining, validating and applying control and defence strategies against these infective agents, with the aim of improving the quality and the quantity of plant productions and their economic and environmental sustainability.
